Cracking the Code

Greening-the-Box (GTB) is an initiative established for the adaptation of existing buildings to standards fit for a low carbon future.

GTB offers design solutions which counter the menace of fuel poverty.

GTB espouses replicable low-tech adaptation techniques.

GTB increases the autonomy of households by giving them greater independence in terms of energy, water and waste management.

An average UK 3 bedroom End Terraced House consumes annually 23,000 kWh/yr, emitting 5 tonnes CO2/yr

Greening-The-Box, Ringland , a 3 bedroom End Terraced House is predicted to consume less than 10,000 kWh/yr emitting less than 1 tonne CO2/yr

Using the Code for Sustainable Homes as a method of comparison;

• A typical UK 3 bedroom new semi-detached house completed in 2008 to minimum Building Regulation standards achieves Code Level 0.

• Greening-The- Box, has achieved Code Level 4

Adapted, GTB Ringland will;

 Reduce its rate of heat loss by ten fold
 Reduce its heating load by over half
 Mitigate its carbon emissions by up to 4 tonnes/yr
